Yeah, now that the DNC is over, I can breath again.
So after one of the most popular and amazing (if not THE most popular) political conventions ever, how do the Repubs respond? They take a breath they collect their wits, they NOMINATE SARA PALIN AS VICE PRESIDENT! Uh... whaaa?
Seriously, have you even heard of this woman two days ago? Sara Palin? Really? I mean. really?
This was a shocker even to me. Yeah. she's a woman (YAY!). But she's also a right wing whacko fundamentalist who believes in Creationism and is anti-woman's rights. Uh. way to go Republicans for denoting where you stand. (Also, note to that party, being under federal investigation - as she is - does not make you a candidate for office.)
This is only gonna get better when she debates Joe Biden.

POLITICAL GEEK, PT. IV
Just so you know, I did watch Barrack's speech. No, I did not tear up. It was a great speech and though he did mention "same sex marriage" (not a big issue for me) I was not brought to bawling.
On the other hand, good for him. It was a forceful, pointed speech towards his supporters. I'm banking on him to hold up to his many promises.

POLITICAL GEEK, PT. III
Just for the record, Dewd, no one said "gay" tonight and I still got choked up 3 times. Who knew?

POLITICAL GEEK, PT. II
So yeah, I watched Hillary tonight, And I cried when she said the word "gay". I'm so pathetic.
It's as if someone came on and gave a speech and just said "gay gay gay" over and over, I'd be a bawling baby.
Other than that I thought it was great. And Chelsea's hair looked awesome which should garner some hairdresser votes. Michelle Obama looked mad which I kinda liked.

POLITICAL GEEK
You may not know this, but I'm a bit of a political geek. I've been this way since the last presidential election and I read 5 or 6 political blogs a day. Tonight I was such a geek that I watched the DNC live on CNN.
I cried twice.
The first time was when Ted Kennedy actually said the words "gay or straight". The second was during Michelle Obama's speech. She was so impassioned and clear, it made me proud. Proud, actually, to be an American who understands what our country can represent. It was pretty impressive.
If you get a chance, catch some. Be impressed by the diversity of faces in the crowd and wonder, as I did, how these people aren't the representatives of the diversity we all hope to enable.

R.I.P. ISSAC HAYES
True story :
In 1973 when Hayes appeared on the Academy Awards and performed "The Theme From Shaft", my mother woke me up (I was 12) to come into the living room to see it on TV. And I was gay. The end.
His music was awesome and I have a lot of it on my iPod.

FRIDAY THANKSGIVING
No Friday Thanksgiving this week donation-wise but so much to be thankful for.
Polly made me laugh due to her excessive tail wagging at my voice. Thank you baby jesus. It was inspiring.
I continue to have support from Pink Navy regarding my post there about Project Runway which they asked me to do. I gives me a chance to contribute in some way to Life Outside My Small Circle and I appreciate the opportunity. I speak to about one person a day (usually the waitress at my BP) and this gives me a chance to touch more.
Finally, thanks to those of you who continue to write Killeen at the Diary of A Social Worker, the woman who helps take care of my mother in her home. Your few minutes of time mean something to me.

POLLY
Ok, one thing (another thing) I'll tell you about Polly. No matter where she is or what she is doing - sleeping, on the floor or walking around our apartment - when I talk to her, her tail goes ballistic. It wags and wags like no one's business. When we're outside on a walk and she's sniffing all and each every leaf and branch, I'll talk to her and suddenly her tail will go into overdrive.
It's amazing how responsive she is to my voice - especially since when I got her I was warned she may be deaf. She reacts a lot when I say (as I often do) the words pretty (as in "pretty girl") and "Pollywog". She is, after all, the prettiest girl and my Pollywog so these are guaranteed winners. Is it just my voice? I have no idea. But today when I spoke to her and heard the hard thump thump thump of her tail on the pillow, I had to express it. It's something that keeps me going. Maybe you too.

SIMON SAYS
Originally I was trying to post a clip from the Carly Simon concert which was shown on BBC tonight. It was awe inspiring, especially to us oldies. "Tapastry" was the first album I stole from my mom.
This is Carol from a concert I found several years ago. She is still so sexy, so charismatic.
Then I came up with this :
Which is the Now version of what I knew via Radiohead. It wakes me a little wistful of all that. I still hear her songs and cry a little for who I was. I hope this carries it forward.

FRIDAY THANKSGIVING
Great thanks to my dear friend Jarod this week who has believed in me and given support for many months now. They are not only a friend, but a long-term friend which is a special thing indeed.
Thank you for your love to me and Polly!!!
